Emiel Verneert picked up the trumpet at the age of 7 and soon developed a great passion for jazz music, inspired by the Miles Davis album “Kind of Blue” and the music of Chet Baker. In 2019, Emiel was selected for “The Youth Jazz Collective”, a project for outstanding young jazz musicians led by conductors such as Frank Vaganée, Mark Godfroid and Vincent Gardner (Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra). The following year, Emiel was accepted into the Ghent Conservatory of Music’s Jazz Department, while still in high school.
Emiel: “For me, it’s fantastic to play and study music. I have time to compose, study, go to Jam Sessions and play with other artists. I have had the opportunity to play with great musicians such as Bruno Castelluci (drums), Paul Flush (Hammond), Jean-Louis Rassinfosse (bass) and attend master classes with Bert Joris and Charlie Porter. I also started composing for my first CD, with the idea of recording before my 20th birthday. My first CD “It Goes On” will contain only original compositions.”
